SALRC has also been working closely with the team at the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture and Pinion Advisory in arranging two other events for Tuesday 3 February:
Join Tasmanian Pasture 365 lead Rowan Smith for an introduction to the project and a walkover the mixed pasture plots that were sown in October 2025. The project is examining whether some pasture species mixes can be more resilient to extended and more regular periods of dry times. Rowan will discuss key observations including differences in species establishment, weed competition and summer growth.
Join Pinion Advisory for a field day focused on the ‘Improving lamb survival on leguminous pastures’ Producer Demonstration Site, a 4-year project driven by the Longford Red Meat Group in Tasmania. This project is demonstrating four different feedbase and grazing management strategies and the link to lamb red gut cases. Over four years the project looks to identify strategies for reducing red gut cases, minimising lamb mortalities, and improving productivity. Attendees will hear from host farmers Sam Lyne (Riccarton, Campbell Town) and Andrew Archer (Chester, Westwood) on experiences and observations from the project to date, receive an update on project preliminary findings and hear from Dr Bruce Jackson (veterinarian consultant) on insights into key lamb diseases and illnesses of relevance to local producers including red gut, toxoplasmosis and more.
