The Southern Australia Livestock Research Council (SALRC) has announced the call for nominations for the 2026 Awards for Excellence in Southern Australian Livestock Industries.
The SALRC Awards were established to recognise and celebrate excellence across the southern Australian red meat and livestock industries. The awards highlight individuals whose work has made a meaningful contribution to research, development, extension, communication and the practical adoption of innovation on farm. People whose work has directly supported improvements in the productivity, profitability and long-term sustainability of the Southern Australian red meat and livestock sector.
The SALRC Committee will co-ordinate the nomination and selection process, which includes four award categories (Livestock Producer; Scientist/researcher; Communicator/extension specialist; and Young achiever – 35 years or under).
Nominees must have excelled in their individual fields and must have either resided or spent a substantial amount of time in Southern Australia while they excelled in their particular field. Overall, nominees will be judged on; value of their work to the Australian Livestock Industries; work carried out above and beyond normal duties; the standing of the nominee in the Australian livestock industries; the degree to which the nominee has been a change agent; and the degree to which the individual has been an industry leader / mentor.
In announcing the opening of the 2026 SALRC Awards, SALRC Chair Sue Hatcher said ““SALRC’s mission is to provide regional direction for investment in RDE&A to future proof the reputation and profitability of the Southern Australian red meat and livestock industries. I am looking forward to SALRC recognising and celebrating individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to our southern Australian beef and sheep industries”.
Nominations must be from a third party (i.e. no self-nomination). Award nominations will close on 20 July 2026. Award recipients will be invited to attend the Livestock 2026 Conference Dinner in Wagga Wagga, NSW on 21 October 2026.
