Nominations are currently open for the 2026 SALRC Awards and we’re shining a light on previous recipients whose work continues to make a lasting impact across the southern Australian livestock industries.
Previous SALRC Communication & Extension Award recipient Deb Scammell, Consultant at Talking Livestock, has dedicated her career to supporting producers through practical advice, knowledge sharing and extension.
Reflecting on the importance of industry recognition, Deb says:
“There are so many people that work alone in the industry that are making huge contributions, often relatively unnoticed. Being recognised for the work can help motivate individuals and makes the day-to-day workload feel important.”
Deb encourages anyone considering nominating a colleague for a SALRC Award to take the opportunity.
“Even to be nominated is an honour.”

Previous SALRC Researcher/Scientist Award recipient Professor Wayne Pitchford, Director of the Davies Livestock Research Centre at Adelaide University, has dedicated his career to advancing livestock genetics, production systems and meat quality.
Wayne believes collaboration between producers, researchers and industry is essential to delivering meaningful change.
“It’s the only way to have supply chain impact.”
From genomic analysis in breeding programs to the rollout of the More Beef from Pastures training program, Wayne’s work has helped shape the future of livestock production.
